Places to go in Vietnam
Vietnam’s diverse scenery is often the biggest appeal for foreign visitors. While the Mekong Delta conjures images of vivid green fields and orchards, Halong Bay, dubbed the eighth wonder of the world due to its rugged limestone peaks and turquoise, is in a league of its own. If you’re a landlubber, the inland version at Ninh Binh is just as gorgeous, while the rolling rice fields around Sapa are prime walking territory, and breath-taking to boot.
If you’re more into relaxing than trekking through the hills, you’ve come to the right place. Boasting 2,000 miles of coastline, Vietnam is fast becoming one of the world’s top beach destinations with secluded coves, tropical islands and long stretches of sand. The standout highlights including the little-known resort of Mui Ne, home to one of Vietnam's most beautiful beaches (and one of our favourites), and the isolated islands of Con Dao, ringed by coral reefs.
Vietnam’s cities offer a captivating blend of old and new, with French colonial buildings set against animated markets and designer stores. Throw in flavourful street food and you have all the components you need for an unforgettable holiday. The energetic cities of Saigon and Hanoi draw you in with a whirlwind of sights and sounds, while the UNESCO World Heritage city of Hoi An has a more relaxed appeal.
