Holidays to Hong Kong
No city in Asia encapsulates the concept of east-meets-west quite like Hong Kong. This small but mighty city quite literally rises out of the sea; with no space to expand out, Hong Kong’s collection of gleaming skyscrapers are forced to reach lofty heights. Walking through the city, you’ll find plenty of Chinese traditions remain despite the rapid speed of development, not least in its cuisine. Of course, the real star here is the traditional Cantonese cuisine, particularly dim sum - small bites served with tea. Street food served at “dai pai dong” stalls is delicious, or if you feel like treating yourself, there’s a raft of restaurants to pick from including 60 Michelin award winners.
Wander down Hollywood Road which weaves its way between towering buildings, and you’ll find an abundance of market traders selling anything from jade and antiques, to hand-pressed sugar cane juice. A short ride across the harbour on the Star Ferry, Kowloon Peninsula offers plenty of shopping and markets. Here you’ll find Tsim Sha Tsu promenade; the best vantage point from which to see the nightly light show.
They may be just an hour out of the city but you’ll feel a million miles away in the sleepy Outlying Islands. Lantau is the largest of the islands, and it’s worth spending a day or two here. For a stark contrast to the city’s commotion, take the cable car to the Tian Tan Buddha and Po Lin Monastery, hidden in the lush mountains, taking in vistas of the forest and the sea as you go. Lamma and Cheung Chau can each be explored in a few hours - why not head over in the evening and dine out at one of the many seafood restaurants? Of course the real star here is Disneyland - 7 lands filled with magic and fun!
Set between Kowloon and mainland China, the rural landscape of the New Territories is in stark contradiction to the metropolis of the city. Often overlooked by travellers, the rugged country parks and coastal scenery are a welcome break from the dense city, and outdoor enthusiasts will be in their element with hiking trails, kayaking and golf galore.

Why we love it...
We never get bored of this city. Every time we go, we discover something new like the Hello Kitty Café, or a cool new bar in Lang Kwai Fong. But nothing beats Hong Kong’s classics like the incredible views from Victoria Peak or simply travelling on the Star Ferry.
