Cycling tour in the Winelands, South Africa

Combine a love of wine and the great outdoors with a guided bicycle tour through the heart of the Cape Winelands. The Winelands is a superb wine-producing area, and the best known in South Africa. The magnificent mountain ranges around Stellenbosch and Franschhoek provide ideal microclimates for the vines. Perfect for those who have limited time in the Winelands, this tour packs the best of Stellenbosch (alternatively Franschhoek) into half a day of laid-back cycling. Enjoy the unique experience of exploring farm roads and private vineyards by bicycle, stopping for two memorable wine tastings en route (a combination of red and white tastings). The distance of the tour is between 9 and 15km in total.

Your tour will start in the morning from either Stellenbosch or Franschhoek, one hour's drive from Cape Town. After getting your bicycle set up it's time to head off to your first wine estate. Enjoy award-winning wines surrounded by beautiful landscape with pristine mountains. Another wine estate will be visited en route before heading back to your hotel. The tour will end in the early afternoon, leaving you plenty of time to discover the rest of the wine region or continue on to your next destination.

If you have more time to spend in the Winelands a full day tour can be arranged in Franschhoek and this includes a glimpse of some of the culture and heritage of this small town. A cycling tour especially designed for families can be done as well and is accessible to all ages and fitness levels with lots of child-friendly activities to enjoy along the way. Non-alcoholic tastings and ice lollies are included for children.

Let's talk
I grew up near the picturesque fishing village of Rye, in East Sussex. However, my heart has always been in Africa since I was a young girl. Having a South African father meant my love for the history and colour of this fantastic continent has been a prominent part of my life, and so getting to travel to seven different countries over the last few years has been a dream come true. One of my highlights was flying in the famous yellow bi-plane across Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya.
