Holidays to Moshi, Tanzania

Based in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, Moshi is a simple stopover with a beautiful scenery. The low-key town of Moshi has a few markets, shops and restaurants and is an appealing blend of African and Asian influences.

Most of Moshi's visitors are here to climb the "Roof of Africa", Mount Kilimanjaro. Standing at nearly 6,000 metres tall, it’s Africa’s highest peak and takes about a week to climb. For those looking for a slightly less mountainous challenge - and a cheaper one at that - nearby Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second highest peak, and makes for an equally beautiful hike with a plethora of flora and fauna to explore. You may even spot a few wild zebra and buffalo.

For a little rest and relaxation after your hike, the Kikuletwa Hot Springs will soothe a tired body. The hour or so it takes to get there from central Moshi is well worth the trip - this natural, warm pool is hidden away in woodland and surrounded by twisting tree roots and leafy branches casting dappled sunlight onto the water.

Let's talk
I grew up near the picturesque fishing village of Rye, in East Sussex. However, my heart has always been in Africa since I was a young girl. Having a South African father meant my love for the history and colour of this fantastic continent has been a prominent part of my life, and so getting to travel to seven different countries over the last few years has been a dream come true. One of my highlights was flying in the famous yellow bi-plane across Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya.
