Embark on a thrilling family adventure to South Africa. On this trip, we'll show you the vibrant city of Cape Town and whisk you to the dizzying heights of its iconic Table Mountain. You'll go on safari where you could see the Big Five, along with lots of other exciting African mammals and birds. You'll have time to relax on the beautiful beaches where whales can often be seen swimming offshore. And we'll take you to the heart of The Winelands, where adults can sample some of South Africa's finest vintages while kids can try the yummy grape juices.

This exciting trip to South Africa includes international flights, transfers, accommodation, selected excursions, most breakfasts and some lunches and dinners.
From the first conversation until you arrive home from your holiday, you’ll be looked after by one of our Travel Designers who has travelled extensively in the region and will give advice from their personal experience on how to make the most out of your trip.
All of our trips are entirely bespoke and we will continually refine your itinerary until it’s perfect.
After an overnight flight to Cape Town, you'll be greeted at the airport and whisked to your hotel the Table Bay. Relax and spend your first evening settling into your hotel and enjoying a dip in the pool.
The next morning you're off to explore the exciting Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, where there's an abundance of shops, restaurants and entertainment to delve into. We've included tickets for a visit to Robben Island, where you can learn about South Africa's turbulent past and see the prison where Nelson Mandela was kept for 18 years. If you're looking for a place to have lunch, we recommend the popular, family-friendly Cafe Paradiso where kids can bake their own cookies or cupcakes.
On Day 4, you're off to discover an icon of Cape Town: Table Mountain. This half-day tour will whisk you to the summit on the Table Mountain Cableway, where you can enjoy spectacular aerial views. Keep your eyes peeled for interesting wildlife along the way. Spend the afternoon at your leisure, soaking up the atmosphere of this stunning city, perusing the shops, visiting the museums or simply admiring the water-side views.
Things to do
On Day five, it's time for some wildlife! You're going to the Little Karoo area of South Africa in the Western Cape where you will be staying at Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, in Gondwana Family Lodge. Get social and meet other families with a shared transfer (roughly three hours) to your family-friendly lodge in this malaria-free reserve. Explorers of all ages will enjoy spotting the Big Five of lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and Cape buffalo during your stay, along with plenty of other exciting wildlife.
Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives through one of the regions of South Africa with the most diverse range of flora and fauna. Try your hand at a range of activities for the whole family, from nature walks to boat safaris, as well as activities specifically catered to younger children. In the evening, relax in your comfortable lodge with onsite family entertainment.
On Day 7, you have time for one final game drive before you swap the wilds of the savannah for the long sandy beaches of Hermanus, famous for seeing pods of whales breach just offshore. En route, you have time for a special wildlife experience - penguins! You'll stop at Betty's Bay to see these cute creatures in their natural habitat. You also have the option of a picnic lunch at Kleinriver Cheese Farm, before checking into your hotel the Marine. Here you can relax - but keep your eyes peeled for whales!
Day 8 is yours to enjoy at your leisure. You can check out the spectacular beaches including the famous Grotto Beach or take a cliff-top stroll to see more of that spectacular scenery. If you’re feeling active, rent bikes and explore the charming town together. Or, if you’re raring to see whales, take advantage of the optional half-day whale-watching tour.
The next leg of your trip is all about the wine! Your guide will pick you up from Hermanus and take you on a tour through the Winelands, stopping at a number of child-friendly wine estates where adults can sample South Africa's finest vintages while kids can try their palate on the local grape juices! Other highlights include a visit to the local butterfly farm in Paarl and, time permitting, the daily duck parade in Vergenoed. Along the way, we'll stop at an award-winning estate where you can opt for a lavish picnic lunch on the lawns while the kids enjoy the gardens and play areas. Then we'll drop you off at the Spier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch.
On Day 10, you can choose your own entertainment from the activities on offer at your accommodation. At the Spier Wine Estate opt for a thrilling Eagle Encounter, indulge in a spa day, peruse the craft shop, go on a self-guided walk or take a fun segway tour. The place offers a selection of delicious, locally produced food for you to munch throughout the day. And of course, they'll be plenty of wine to savour.
City and Flight
On Day 11, you'll return to Cape Town, where you will be staying at the More Quarters. You can spend the rest of the day exploring the parts of Cape Town you missed the first time around. To help you out, we've included free transfers between your accommodation and the V&A Waterfront. Take a stroll along the waterfront, explore the museums or enjoy dinner in one of the oceanfront restaurants - the perfect way to top off your South African adventures.
On the last day of your trip enjoy a private transfer to the Cape Town Airport for your international flight home, when you'll have plenty of time to reflect on your wonderful family holiday and prepare your holiday snaps to show envious family and friends on your return.
