Holidays to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Victoria Falls is truly spectacular. Measuring twice the height of Niagara Falls and twice the width of Horseshoe Falls, it's officially the largest sheet of falling water on Earth. Named locally as "Mosi-oa-Tunya" or "the smoke that thunders", Victoria Falls is located on the Zambezi River and forms a spectacular border between Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Start your trip with a walk across Victoria Falls Bridge to fully appreciate the scale and power of the falls. It’ll help you get your bearings, plus the panoramic views are picture-perfect. A few feet below, on Knife Edge Bridge, you’ll enjoy the same stunning views of the Eastern Cataract and Main Falls, but this time on a harnessed walking tour as you’ll be a little closer to the action. If you’d prefer to explore the good old fashioned way, other popular walking routes take in the Batoka Gorge and Boiling Pot, which is a permanent whirlpool where two streams of the Zambezi collide.

For unparalleled views of Victoria Falls, a short boat trip to Livingstone Island is not to be missed. If you time your trip for the dry season you can venture to the island’s Devil’s Pool. This natural cliff-top infinity pool is a strong contender for the title of "world’s most beautiful spot". If you’re feeling brave, you can peer over the edge and watch the falls plummet 100 metres down. The view from the sky is just as spectacular and a scenic helicopter flight amongst the mist is highly recommended.

Two sprawling nature reserves border Victoria Falls, and are as well known for their dense rainforests as they are for their wildlife. Sustained by the water spray from the falls, here you’ll find a range of plants and trees not seen anywhere else in this part of Africa.

Thrill-seekers are naturally drawn to Victoria Falls because of its many gorges and cliff tops. Abseiling, zip-lining and bungee jumping are sure to get your adrenaline pumping, while white-water rafting and kayaking will provide hours of fun. With so much to see and explore, Victoria Falls is certain to make your heart race long after you’ve left this natural wonder.
