Sala Lodges, Siem Reap
- Stay in an authentic Khmer house
- Serene setting
Close to the Angkor temples, Sala Lodges offer a truly charming and authentic Cambodian experience. Just eleven original Khmer houses were sourced from around Cambodia and transported to Siem Reap to form a peaceful village resort, with each home sympathetically transformed into beautiful accommodation.
Despite being decades old, the stilted houses have been modernised and well-appointed in their new situation to the standard of a luxury hotel. So you can expect the usual amenities including air conditioning, comfortable beds and rain showers in the bathrooms. Some of the larger houses can accommodate up to five people, although the smaller lodges are ideal for cosy romantic escapes. Children are welcome here, although don’t expect dedicated children’s activities.
The helpful, friendly staff can arrange local excursions, whether you want to explore the area by tuk tuk, boat, bicycle, jeep or kayak. At the end of a busy day exploring, the picturesque saltwater swimming pool is in a particularly serene setting, perfectly positioned to enjoy a Cambodian sunset. The hotel grounds are typical Cambodian countryside, with sugar palms, rice paddies and banana trees.
The on-site restaurant serves up traditional Cambodian dishes, alongside western favourites. Come evening, rock up for a cocktail on the terrace and enjoy some live music.
Depending on the season, guests can help with the sowing and harvesting of rice in Sala Lodge’s rice paddies for the true Cambodian experience.
