Holidays to Munduk, Indonesia

Up in the mountains, Munduk is cooler and less humid than Bali’s coastal areas, and is the ideal location for hiking through the jungle to see hidden treasures; the cocoa and coffee plantations, secluded villages, and the spectacular Munduk and Bolangan waterfalls. As well as hiking there are guided cycle tours. Be sure to visit the Banyan Tree in Gesing. Now over 500 years old, this giant tree was once used as a soldiers’ hideout.

Like a dream, the Pura Ulun Danu Bratan temple complex rises from the surface of Tamblington Lake, surrounded by the mountains it is like a view of an enchanted fairytale land. When you emerge from Bali’s most famous temple, take to the Banjar hot springs to soak your cares away, or take a class learning to cook Balinese food with traditional tools and ingredients.

Highlights

  • Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, the most famous temple in Bali

  • Spectacular hiking trails

Let's talk
An extraordinary moment from my time in Indonesia was watching the sunrise at Ijen after a big climb up (and even down into!) the volcano. The country has stunning scenery and wildlife, from smoking volcanoes to fantastic dive sites, Komodo dragons and cheeky orangutans.
