Monkey sitting on a Statue, Ubud, Bali
Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary
The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary (sometimes known as the Monkey Forest or Monkey Temple) is a nature reserve and Hindu temple complex just outside of Ubud. On this tour, you will have the chance to embrace the spiritual and cultural aspects as well as meeting the local furry residents which give the sanctuary its name. Over 700 monkeys and 186 species of trees make up the forest, making the area one of the most important spiritual, economic, educational and preserved areas for miles around.
These cheeky Long-tailed Macaques will be more than willing to interact with you, especially if you feed them, but be sure to keep any belongings close by and out of reach of their little hands! You will be able to spot these playful creatures swinging from the treetops above you, relaxing on the paths around the temple and also lounging on top of statues.
