Exploring a coffee plantation in Champasak District
Jeep Journey and Coffee Culture, Champasak
The adventure begins in a 4x4 jeep, where you’ll head into the centre of Southern Laos, travelling off-road through the vast landscape of the Bolaven Plateau. If the bumpy jeep journey isn’t enough to wake you up properly, then a visit to the best coffee plantation in Lao will certainly give you a caffeine kick. Here you can walk among the coffee beans, learning from the plantation workers how they grow the best coffee beans around.
After sampling the coffee and filling up on a traditional lunch, head off on foot along the jungle trail, passing through small villages and colourful farms. This part of the trek will lead you through old camps to an old wartime shelter hidden in a cave, a reminder to visitors of the struggles endured by the locals during the Vietnam- American war.
Retracing your footsteps back to the jeep, it’s time for some waterfall hunting. The thick jungle in Bolaven Plateau is home to many small waterfalls but one that stands out is the Tad Moun Waterfalls. Not many people know about this secluded waterfall, so hopefully you’ll be able to enjoy a quiet dip into the cool, blue pool and take some snaps of the surrounding scenery without too many people around.
After a dip in the pools, it’s back down to Champasak to conclude the day trip around the Bolaven Plateau.
