Tengah Beach on Langkawi, Malaysia
The Andaman, Langkawi
- Ideal for romantic getaways or family holidays
- Picturesque surroundings in an ancient rainforest
- Four restaurants and a beach hut
This tropical hideaway is a little slice of paradise. Langkawi's Andaman resort is the perfect place for a getaway, with abundant green rainforests running up against a long stretch of perfectly sandy beach (the beach is private, naturally).
The picturesque environs are wonderfully complemented by the rustic yet luxurious resort itself, where the rooms are furnished in a way that makes use of traditional Malaysian techniques, with dark wooden floorboards and details combined with plush linens and amazing views. Upgrade to a room on the 3rd or 4th storey for stunning sea views. All rooms come with comforting favourites such as fully stocked mini bar, large bathtubs and even cosy bathrobes with matching slippers for when you just need to relax.
Head to the spa for a relaxing treatment or two, then sign up for a cooking class to learn about the secrets of Malay cuisine. The Els Club Teluk Datai Golf Course is just a few minutes away for those who fancy a quick 18 holes, and guests with children will be pleased to hear about the Young Explorers’ Club, set up to provide fun activities for the young travellers at the resort. A fantastic pool is perfect for lounging and soaking up that vitamin D with a good book.
Then there’s the food! When it comes to cuisine it’s impossible to be disappointed at The Andaman. There are four unique restaurants on-site, each serving up something a little different. There’s also the delightful beach bar which serves up light and healthy lunches by day and stunning ocean sunsets 24/7.
The Andaman embarked on a Coral Conservation project after discovering an 8,000 year old coral reef on its shores had been badly damaged by the tsunami in 2004. Since then, the resort has conducted monthly Coral Walks to educate guests, and there are even voluntary coral clearing activities to join.
