Floating market in Bangkok, Thailand
Bangkok's Floating Markets
This morning you’ll leave the heaving city behind and travel to local markets and countryside neighbourhoods. A one-hour transfer will take you into the heart of lush landscapes and traditional villages.
Your first stop is Maeklong Railway Market, where vendors set up stalls along train tracks. One of the most unique and memorable Bangkok markets to visit, watch as the stallholders quickly clear their goods off the tracks as trains arrive at the station, then unload and carry on once they’ve departed.
Journey on through the countryside to the famous Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. You’re sure to find a souvenir or two here, and there are endless photo opportunities. In among the touristy gifts, you’ll find fresh fruits and typical Thai snacks being sold aboard the floating shops. If your visit falls on a weekend, you have the option of visiting the more authentic floating market of Tha Kha.
For a closer look at river life, leave the main market area and take a relaxing paddleboat ride through the labyrinth of canals. Pass by houses and small huts, and see how locals live in this rural province of Thailand.
