Kinabatangan River

Wildlife

Kiss goodbye to Kuala Lumpur and say hello to the rainforest. Today you’re headed for Sukau Rainforest Lodge, nestled on the banks of Borneo’s Kinabatangan River. Once you’ve checked in you’ll take a walk along the river with a local guide to spot nocturnal wildlife before returning for dinner and a presentation on the river.

The next day you’ll wake up early for a cruise to Kelenanap oxbow lake for more wildlife spotting. After breakfast you’ll continue by private boat to Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort; after a local banana fritter you’ll head out in search of Pygmy elephants, wild orangutans and Proboscis monkeys.

The following day you’ll eat a packed breakfast while cruising the nearby ox-bow lake, Danau Pitas, before heading on to a local fishing village. In the afternoon you’ll take another cruise through mangroves taking in river life and village landscape. In the evening you’ll head out onto the river; the night sky is so dark that on a clear night you can see the outline of the Milky Way. You’ll also spot the magical lit up fauna thanks to thousands of fireflies.
