A rice field and river in Ninh Binh, Vietnam
Hoa Lu Ruins and Cycling Tour, Ninh Binh
You'll set off after breakfast for Hoa Lu, the site of Vietnam’s capital in the 10th century. This tiny kingdom covered just 300 hectares, and your guide will tell you all about the Dinh and Le dynasties who ruled the area. Visit the 17th century temples and the ruins of the once-imposing Citadel. If you’re feeling fit, you can climb into the limestone karst hills. The half-hour walk rewards you with spectacular views over Hoa Lu and its surroundings.
After lunch, board your private sampan to visit Thung Nham eco-tourism zone, known as ‘Bird Valley’ due to the thousands of birds that call it home. You’ll then continue with a private cycling tour through the spectacular scenery of rice fields, karst formations, and quaint rural villages. If you feel adventurous, climb up to Bich Dong Pagoda on nearby Ngu Nhac Mountain. This pagoda is comprised of three structures dating to 1428: Ha, Trung, and Thuong Pagodas, in ascending order.
