Wooden sampan in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam
Authentic Mekong Delta Tour, Saigon
Your full-day tour will begin at 8:00 am when you’ll leave the chaotic city behind for the waterways of the Mekong Delta, the so-called ‘ricebowl of Vietnam.’ The fertile waterways house floating markets, sleepy villages and are home to thousands of Vietnam’s residents.
Upon reaching the Delta you’ll board a local motorboat to cruise up a small river before continuing your tour by bike (if you’re no Bradley Wiggins, a tractor-style vehicle is available). Travelling on shady back roads through sleeping villages past fruit gardens, you’ll stop en-route at traditional workshop which makes turmeric spring roll paper and roof thatching from the water palm trees. Having worked up an appetite, you’ll stop in at an orchard for a snack of fresh fruits picked straight from the tree and listen to the stories of the owner, a former war veteran.
Say farewell to your host and board a sampan, a traditional delta boat. Paddling slowly along the canals, you’ll gain a first-hand perspective of the villages and farms that populate the delta. Disembark and continue cycling to a stunning 100-year old house, an architectural blend of Vietnamese and European styles, where you’ll be served lunch consisting of dishes native to the Mekong Delta.
You have the option of traveling to the Mekong Delta either by speedboat or car.
