Australia Holidays

Australia promises year-round sunshine, as well as a diverse range of adventure and sightseeing opportunities. Thanks to its vast scale, there isn't much that Australia doesn't offer. A country of huge contrasts, head Down Under to discover the most beautiful beaches in the world, expansive deserts, the glittering skylines of cities such as Sydney and Melbourne, spectacular mountains, unique wildlife, and a host of different cultures.

This sun-soaked country appeals to every taste and budget. You can unwind in Adelaide, with its serene parks and idyllic beaches. Or, Sydney is the spot for you if you’re looking for buzzing city life, from its skyline bars and lively café culture, to the iconic harbour and waterfront art galleries.

Australia’s varied and beautiful wildlife is another reason why travellers venture here. Meet a multitude of animal species; from kangaroos, emus, platypuses, and kookaburras, or spot Australia’s native animal at the largest koala sanctuary, located just outside of bustling Brisbane.

You can even channel your inner Crocodile Dundee in the Northern Territory, hit the surf at the pristine beaches of the Gold Coast and Phillip Island, or trek through the World Heritage-listed rainforest and lush fern gullies of Victoria’s Otway Ranges. Alternatively, discover true desert wilderness at Uluru in Australia’s Red Centre, or snorkel in the spectacular riches of the famous Great Barrier Reef.

Let's talk
After a round the world trip that included a spell in Australia, I knew I wasn’t quite done with the Land Down Under. Shortly after returning to the UK I flew back and lived and worked in various towns and cities for a year, taking the time to travel the length and breadth of the country. I am now based in Auckland and often make trips back across the Tasman Sea. My best-loved spot has to be Cape Tribulation because it’s the amalgamation of the beach with the rainforest – perfect!

Places to go in Australia

Australia has enough to supply several lifetimes of adventure, much of it completely unique – and we’re not just talking about koalas and kangaroos.

Let’s not forget the fantastic big cities, such as cosmopolitan Sydney with the famous Sydney Opera House, and trendy Melbourne (known as the cultural and sports capital of Down Under). But don’t let Australia’s big guns blind you to the delights of its smaller cities. Each has its own distinct character, shaped by its history and environment – laid-back, tropical Darwin, sun-soaked Perth, hip and quirky Fremantle, up-and-coming Brisbane and historic but cool Hobart. All, in their own way, are dominated by their relationship with the sea – right from their origins as 19th-century colonial ports. Australia is one of the most sparsely populated countries on earth and has continued to welcome immigrants from all over the world, making its cities some of the most multicultural you’ll find anywhere. This also makes for a fabulous culinary scene, in which arguably the world’s finest seafood takes centre stage – accompanied, of course, by Australia’s world-class wines and local brews.
