Snorkel with Salmon on the Campbell River
Fancy doing something a little different? Then this is the experience for you. It’s not just grizzly bears that get to head to the water in search of salmon as at the Campbell River - you can too! This raft and snorkel tour is unique to the river and something you won't find anywhere else.
Every year the Campbell River overflows with thousands of salmon returning to where they started. The crystal-clear waters here make it especially easy to see them – not that you could miss them as there are so many! You have the option of viewing them from the raft or getting even closer by donning a wetsuit and heading into the river pools to snorkel with them.
All five species of Pacific salmon are found in the Campbell River over the course of the salmon run, starting with famous pinks in late July. Then chinook, coho, and sockeye arrive through August and September with the chum salmon arriving last. Entering their watery territory, you will find yourself literally surrounded by them and while they may try their best to stay out of your way, don’t be surprised if you feel the thud of a fin every now and then.
Love wildlife? There’s more! Whether you remain on the raft or wait till you get back to it, keep your eyes peeled for black bear, deer, beaver, weasel, eagles, mergansers, kingfishers, seals and other wildlife. All are commonly spotted and that just makes for an even more unforgettable experience.
Return transport and wetsuits are provided so you don’t have to worry about anything other than remembering your waterproof camera.
