Holidays to Lake Louise, Alberta
Named after Queen Victoria’s fourth daughter, Lake Louise is a truly awe-inspiring sight. It's well earned title, 'The Jewel of the Rockies', becomes apparent very quickly when you take in it's bright turquoise hue and dramatic alpine backdrop. Enjoy some afternoon tea at the lakeside Château Lake Louise hotel for an impressive and less crowded view of the lake.
The lake's namesake town is a popular destination in summer and winter, with outdoor pursuits abound. An ample ski resort in winter, it's often a preferred option to it's busier neighbour, Banff. Summer visitors can take advantage of the ski gondola and take the fourteen minute trip to the top where a magnificent view awaits as well as plenty of short, leisurely strolls, more challenging hikes and a range of dining options. On the journey itself, it's well worth keeping a camera to hand as black bears are often spotted on the edge of the forest below.
The town itself is located just off the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1). It has a small shopping centre, with a grocery store, bakery, deli, bar, sporting goods store, and visitor information centre. Lake Louise also offers a variety of restaurant and accommodation options. Smaller and quieter than Banff, you really feel immersed in the mountains and nature when you spend time in Lake Louise.
