Holidays to Montréal, Canada

Located in the southwest province of QuébecMontréal is the second largest French-speaking city in the world. As a consequence, you'll find it enjoys a distinct French influence; take a stroll along the streets lined with quirky bars, cafes and trendy restaurants you'd expect to see in the likes of Paris.

Considered the cultural capital of Canada, Montréalers are known for their joie de vivre. The city hosts more than 90 festivals a year, along with many art and music events which have made it a world-renowned destination.

Montréal offers one of the most diverse and exciting food scenes in North America, brimming with a delicious variety of restaurants, bistros, patisseries and cafés. Of course, no visit to Montréal would be complete without trying its most famous dish, poutine: bowls of fries are smothered in cheese curds and gravy, resulting in a serious culinary accomplishment.

For a unique way of exploring the city, spend the morning cycling the Canal de Lachine. Later, take to the cobbled streets of Old Montréal, where you’ll find historic treasures including the Basilica of Notre Dame, the Place Jacques-Cartier and Vieux Port.  For a different experience, go south of the plateau of Mont Royal to the Rue Sherbrooke where you'll find exclusive shops, art galleries and the Musée des Beaux-Arts, not to mention Jardin Botanique which rivals London’s Kew Gardens with its breathtakingly beautiful flowers.

Located in the heart of Montréal, the summit of Mont Royal offers a fantastic view.  You can get there by walking through the beautiful Mont Royal Park, taking a bus or driving to the top.

Born in Toronto, I spent two years living in British Columbia after university, where I was completely taken by the incredible wilderness and adventure opportunities. Since then, I’ve travelled extensively in this vast country. Highlights have included observing the polar bears of Hudson Bay, spending time in the beautiful walled city of Quebec and whale watching off the coast of Vancouver Island.
