Holidays to Clearwater, Canada
Situated in British Columbia, Wells Grey Provincial Park boasts some of Canada's finest landscapes.
Stay in the nearby Clearwater, a quaint town situated on the fringe of the park. A network of hiking trails weave through beautiful alpine meadows, leading to the Mahood Waterfall Trail and Trophy Mountains Meadows; the meadows are famous for bursting into colour during July as the flowers come into bloom. Time your visit and attend the Alpine Blossom Festival in August, when the hills come alive - quite literally - with the sound of music, and other entertainment.
Whether you prefer scenic float trips or wild white water rafting adventures, you'll find all of this and more around Clearwater. During the winter you enjoy cross country skiing along the Candle Creek Nordic Ski Trails, a series of 35km of well-groomed tracks through woodland. If you're a fair weather fan, in the summer the trail system is ideal for mountain biking.
With 39 named waterfalls, Wells Gray is aptly nicknamed 'Canada's Waterfall Park', with the undisputed highlight of the park being the glorious Helmcken Falls. At 141m it's nearly twice the heights of Niagara Falls. Take the 8km hike for a close-up view, or head for the viewing platform on the other side of the Murtle River for Instagram worthy photos.
