Holidays to Agra, India

If you’re visiting India there is a good chance Agra is on your to see list. Home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the town packs a big punch when it comes to attractions. As well as the big players like the Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, you’ll also find many other impressive buildings and tombs from the Mughal Empire.

Of course, Agra's biggest draw is the mesmerising Taj Mahal. It draws wanderlust seekers to Agra like bees to honey and with good reason too. Its creator, Emperor Shah Jahan, said it made 'the sun and the moon shed tears from their eyes'. And it seems like the world’s tourists are in agreement; every year around eight million people visit the site. Why not take a tour and learn how it was built as a memorial for the emperor’s wife who died in childbirth? Take in the mighty majesty and exquisite detailing which took some 20,000 people to create. To see the Taj Mahal from another angle head across the Yamuna River to the park of Metah Bagh. Though it was created 100 years before, it's built in perfect alignment with the world famous monument and the views are spectacular. Visit an hour before sunset for a truly epic view.

While many come for the Taj Mahal and call it a day, it’s worth making time for one of the finest Mughal forts in the country. Visit the red sandstone and marble Agra Fort and take in the stunning building. The more you wander the more you’ll grow amazed at the sheer scale of this building. You might also like to take a day trip out to Fatehpur Sikri, an ancient city once the capital of the Mughal Empire.

Let's talk
I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to over 75 countries over 6 continents both for work and pleasure. However, there is something about India that keeps drawing me back. I’ve now visited several times, having experienced everything from relaxing on a houseboat in Kerala, spotting a tiger in the Indian jungle, becoming a yoga teacher in Rishikesh and hiking in the Himalayan foothills.
