Agra's City Sites
With many travellers flocking to Agra for the Taj Mahal it is easy to forget that Agra was once India's capital, and is home to a number of other architectural highlights in their own right. This tour allows you to explore some of these, with a local guide who knows the turbulent history of this city inside out.
You’ll head to Agra’s Red Fort which was the most important residence of the Mughal Emperors until 1638 when the capital was re-located to Delhi. Marvel at its formidably high walls and as you wander through its sandstone archways and courtyards it’s not hard to see how this is one of the best Mughal forts in the country. Up on the ramparts you can enjoy views across the Yamuna River of the Taj Mahal.
During this tour you'll also visits Itimad-ud-Daulah, or what many people call the ‘Baby Taj’ and which is the tomb of Mizra Ghiyas Beg. Set in peaceful gardens the ‘Baby Taj’ was actually fitted with its marble exterior before the Taj Mahal itself. Although it might not have the same wow factor, with the help of your guide you'll notice its exquisite detail in the marble and the beautifully finely carved lattice screens.
