Overnight Keralan Houseboat Cruise, the Backwaters

Your small crew will be waiting on the jetty to welcome you onto your houseboat which will be yours exclusively for the next 24 hours. As you gently set off, sit back and relax on the front deck and enjoy exploring the maze of water and riverways that wind their way along the coast. From here you’ve got the best view of life in the backwaters and you might pass boats of children travelling to school, locals washing clothes in the river or fishermen out on wooden canoes.

During the trip you might stop off at a local village to stretch your legs and explore the community. You can also hop off the houseboat into a wooden canoe to access some of the narrower canals. The boat will moor up in the evening so that you can enjoy the colourful sunset over the palm-lined backwaters which is a real highlight!

Your attentive crew will prepare fresh Keralan meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner which you can enjoy out on deck. No alcohol is served on board so if you fancy a tipple be sure to stop off at a shop before boarding. Accommodation is simple but comfortable and you’ll have your own air-conditioned cabin with en suite.

With more time you can do a longer two-night cruise to explore deeper into the backwaters for a truly authentic experience. Chat with your Travel Designer about different options as the houseboats are a Keralan experience not to be missed.
