Tuk tuk ride in Colombo

If you want to take in the sights and sounds of Sri Lanka’s bustling ocean city, this is the way to do it! On this tour you’ll hop aboard a tuk tuk and journey throughout Colombo, passing sites and local life as you go. Go for a morning ride while it’s still cool and watch daily life unfold, or opt for an evening ride and take in the sights amidst the backdrop of scenic lights.

This sprawling city is home to a melting pot of religions and cultures which is evident at every turn. On your tour you might pass peaceful Buddhist shrines, smart colonial churches and brightly coloured Hindu temples. You’ll also see modern office buildings next to local cafes and rickety shops; it’s a city of charming contrasts. Once known as ‘the garden city of the East’, you’ll also see remnants of this past in the long tree-lined avenues. Head to Fort, the central business district, to see plenty of colonial architecture or take a ride to Pettah and hop off to explore the buzzing markets.

The ride can take as long as you like and if you have nowhere in mind, let the driver be your guide. They can drop you off wherever you like too, so it’s a great way to head to a new area and check out the eateries, galleries and shops. And if you don’t feel like walking home? Take another tuk tuk!

I will never forget the moment that we came across a huge herd of 50 elephants in Minneriya National Park. They ran for cover when there was a sudden downpour, and I got soaked but didn’t care! I love Sri Lanka for its diversity, great food, culture, wildlife and history – and it’s still very much undeveloped.
