Things to do
Bid farewell to the capital city today as you're off to Tilcara - a picturesque town surrounded by mountains on all sides. While here you’ll drive out to the huge salt flats of Salinas Grandes which will prove quite the backdrop for your photos. Try jumping, handstands or an optical illusion for travel photos you’ll want to show off. After you’ve had your fill of this natural phenomenon you’ll carry on to Purmamarca, a charming village at the foot of the multi coloured mountains best known as the ‘Seven Colours Hill’. Thanks to the natural minerals and sediments, these mountain faces are swirled with brilliant green, purple, red, orange and white stripes.
Today you’re off to the sophisticated city of Salta which boasts excellent museums, a strong café culture and a great live music scene. Spend your days here as you please; pick up an authentic souvenir at the weekly artisan market, check out the brilliant preserved colonial architecture or see Incan child mummies at the Museum of High Altitude Archaeology.
As you make your way from Salta to Molinos you’ll travel through the lush green jungle of the Yungas to the semi desert of Calchaquí Valley, and after spending some time mountainside you’ll end up 3400 metres above sea level. Look up - if you’re lucky you might see Condors hovering in the sky. You’ll end up in the tiny quaint village of Molinos where time appears to have stood still.
After another scenic drive you’ll arrive in Cafayate, famed for its reddish rock formations and wine production. Thanks to the combination of excellent weather, soil, vines and altitude the Calchaquí Valley is the perfect spot for creating fine wine; be sure to try a glass of Torrontés while you’re here - it’s the region’s distinctive varietal white wine.
Activity & Adventure
Today you’re headed into the jungle to see the breathtakingly stunning series of waterfalls known as Iguazú Falls. Lonely Planet calls them ‘one of the planet’s most awe-inspiring sights’ and lucky you - you’ll get the chance to see both the Argentinian and Brazilian side of the falls! On day 14 you'll transfer to the airport to catch your flight home.
