Are you ready to take the road less travelled in Chile? Today is the day! You’ll touch down in the capital city of Santiago where you’ll be met by a guide and taken to your hotel to settle in. You’ll enjoy a half day tour of the city where you’ll get to grips with Santiago’s evolution from colonial city to urban metropolis. After exploring some lesser known districts or "Barrios", you’ll head to Sky Costanera - a stunning 300m tall observation platform, the highest of its kind in South America. From here you’ll enjoy a panoramic view of the city and the Andes, on a clear day.

Elqui Valley

General tour

You’ll kick-start day four with a culinary food tour of Santiago where you’ll explore several local produce markets before using your purchased goodies to prepare a classic Chilean meal which you’ll enjoy with a bottle of local wine. You’ll also sample olive oils and learn how to make the perfect Pisco Sour. With full bellies you’ll bid farewell to the capital city and make your way to the Elqui Valley – an enchanting and under visited location. You’ll be staying in a two storey geodesic dome with a detachable roof for stargazing from bed. There are plenty of other activities you can arrange at the hotel, such as night-time horse riding and mountain biking. Or why not check out their astronomy observatory?

Aysén

General tour

From here you’ll pick up your air conditioned hire car and drive down to the small but perfectly formed lake town of Puerto Rio Tranquilo in the Aysén region. The region is famed for its ice fields and startling blue water, formed by the melting glaciers that flow into the region's many lakes and rivers. The water is so pure, you can fill up your water bottle directly from the lakes - although it may be a little cold!

Activity & Adventure

On day nine we suggest you drive down to Chile’s largest lake - Lago General Carrera. Here you can board a boat to get up close to the renowned ‘Marble Cathedral’. Over the years the crystal clear water has carved amazing shapes into the rock creating a stunning natural sculpture which has a cathedral quality about it. After your tour you’ll continue driving down to Parque Patagonia, a gorgeous natural landscape of grasslands and glaciated peaks. You’ll be staying at a luxury lodge in the heart of it; the perfect base for accessing the many hiking trails. Back at your hotel you can rest next to the roaring fire, gaze at the original photographs or simply stare in awe at the beautiful views of Mount Tamanguito.

Aysén

General tour

Today you’ll drive to Coyhaique, the capital of the Aysén region. Spend your time here as you please; take out a bike from your hotel and explore the stunning surroundings or chill out in the outdoor hot tub. The towering Cerro Mackay hill is the most recognisable feature of the town, looming over the landscape, and you might spot a condor or eagle flying above the peak, if you're lucky.

Zapallar

Beach

After dropping back the hire car you’ll fly back to Santiago and from there head out to the seaside village of Zapallar. Spend your time here relaxing at the beach, cooling down at the hotel’s swimming pool or indulging at the onsite gourmet restaurant.

On Day 14 you’ll leave Chile behind and head home with plenty of new and unique experiences to share with your friends and family.
