Two Oceans Aquarium

The Two Oceans aquarium opened in November 1995 and is recognised as one of the top tourist attractions in Cape Town.

The southern tip of the African continent is the meeting place of two mighty and bountiful oceans, the Indian and the Atlantic. The Two Oceans Aquarium on the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town is ideally positioned to showcase the incredible diversity of the marine life found in these waters. Over 3000 living sea animals, including sharks, fish, turtles and penguins can be seen in this spectacular underwater nature reserve.

The aquarium is wonderful for families as you can watch the penguins and other marine creatures at feeding times or watch the I&J Ocean Exhibit (a full 10-metre long tunnel with a variety of subtropical species).

As the aquarium is an educational facility, the focus lies on providing all visitors with a better understanding of the two oceans and the important role that the ocean plays within our lives. Kids can visit the touch pool and the microscope and see tiny marine organisms for themselves. There is also a children’s play centre with puppet shows and arts & crafts.

I adore Africa and have lived and worked in South Africa as well as travelling across the wider region. Spotting a leopard during a night safari at Nambiti Private Game Reserve is definitely an experience I'll remember forever.
