Whale Watching Tour in Kelinbaai, Garden Route

This is a chance to see South Africa’s beautiful whales and birds, without disturbing their natural behaviour. You depart from Kleinbaai Harbour, the launch pad for whale watching cruises in this area, which is remarkably rich in marine life. Once you have arrived at the Great White House, you will be briefed about the route, safety and what to look out for. You will be fitted with comfortable life-jackets and waterproof jackets before going out on sea. Each trip is led by experienced marine biologists and guides who will share their knowledge with you, keeping emphasis on the welfare and conservation of the animals.

Dyer Island is located 8km from shore and is an access controlled Important Bird Area for the conservation of its many resident bird species, including African penguins, Cape Gannets and Giant Petrels. Adjacent to Dyer Island is Geyser Rock which is home to 60,000 Cape Fur Seals. The channel between these two islands is known as “Shark Alley”, as Great White Sharks cruise the waters in search of their favourite prey. In and around these waters are strong numbers of Bryde’s Whales, Humpback Whales as well as dolphins, which make for very rewarding and close up sightings.

Return to shore and enjoy a warm drink while watching a DVD of your boat trip!

I adore Africa and have lived and worked in South Africa as well as travelling across the wider region. Spotting a leopard during a night safari at Namibia Private Game Reserve is definitely an experience I'll remember forever.
