Madikwe Game Drive
Madikwe Game Reserve borders Botswana and is located in North West province, about a 3.5 hour drive from both Johannesburg and Pretoria. It is one of the few wildlife reserves in Southern Africa that is malaria free.
Lion, elephant, black and white rhino, buffalo and leopard are all here in abundance, as well as cheetah, giraffe and both spotted and brown hyena and you have the chance of seeing any of these species. Madikwe Game Reserve is one of the best places in Southern Africa to watch the elusive and rare wild dog, a fascinating species on the brink of extinction. Madikwe is also one of the few reserves where the Kalahari Gemsbok and Springbok share territory. Prepare for some exceptional wildlife encounters!
Travelling through the 75,000 hectares of the magnificent Madikwe Game Reserve, your guide will share their wealth and knowledge with you, from the fascinating private life of the dung beetle to the intricacies of the wild dog social system.
There are two daily game drives, timed to make most of the periods when the game is most active, one in the early morning and another in the late afternoon. Make sure that on board you have your binoculars, camera, hat, sunscreen, guidebooks and sunglasses. The afternoon drive, after a brief stop to enjoy sundowners in a lovely setting, continues into the night, a shielded spotlight revealing the nocturnal wildlife of the bush.
After your game drive you will return to your accommodation where you can relax and enjoy the magnificent views from the comfort of your own room.
