Kololo Game Drive, Welgevonden

Situated in the Limpopo province, in the heart of the Waterberg biosphere, Kololo Game Reserve is the perfect safari destination: malaria-free, child friendly and home to a large variety of game! A game drive on the 3000 hectare park will introduce you to the bush, savannah, rivers, flowers, birds and natural wildlife. The professional rangers will do their best to show you as many animals as possible, assist you with identifying bird species on Kololo Game Reserve and explain all the interesting facts about the game, the plants and the trees while out on safari.

Kololo is not home to any of the Big 5 but boasts an abundance of general plains game (giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, kudu etc.). If you wish to see the Big 5 visit the neighbouring Welgevonden Game Reserve.

You’ll head out on a safari vehicle with your guide from your accommodation on a half-day safari adventure. Make sure that on board you have your binoculars, camera, hat, sunscreen, guidebooks and sunglasses. You’ll have the opportunity to go out in the morning and afternoon; and you are sure to spot something special.

Kololo game drives are conducted in an open game drive vehicle. Half-way through your drive you will stop for some drinks and snacks. New is the Kololo night drive where you can enjoy the nightlife on Kololo under the fascinating starry sky of the southern hemisphere. Spot nocturnal animals and see how the bush looks without the African sun.

After your game drive you will return to your accommodation where you can enjoy the wildlife from the comfort of your chalet.

I was lucky enough to live and work across South Africa, and I miss the excellent gourmet food and award-winning wines, perfect for enjoying in front of dramatic mountain ranges. I also had an amazing experience diving with seals; the water was freezing but it was definitely worth it!
