Hike the Lower Slope of Mount Kilimanjaro

No trip to Tanzania is complete without a trip to Mount Kilimanjaro. You’ll find this looming beauty just over 300 kilometres south of the equator on the northern Tanzanian boundary. At a staggering 5,895 metres high, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain and one of the continent’s most popular and mesmerising sights. The formation is so vast, it influences the climate and in turn, the area’s vegetation and wildlife.

On this trip, you’ll get to see the highest free-standing mountain in the world for yourself and hike the lower slopes. You’ll be collected from your hotel and transferred to the Mount Kilimanjaro National Park, where you’ll make your way to the base of the mountain. Once you’ve been briefed, you’ll spend the next two hours hiking up the lower slopes of the mountain where you’ll eventually reach a scenic viewpoint. You’ll stop here for a picnic lunch while you take in the tremendous views, before making your way back down the mountain.

After my first safari at 12 years old, I haven’t stopped going back to Africa. With diverse landscapes and the Indian Ocean on its doorstep, Tanzania has everything from giraffes to whale sharks. I’ll never forget watching a clan of hyena take on a lone buffalo in Ngorongoro Crater.
