Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s first, largest and best-known nature reserve. This national park is diverse – from its incredible selection of wildlife and birds to the many different types of terrain. There is no doubt that you’ll be glimpsing amazing sights from the moment you arrive until the moment you have to drag yourself away at the end of your stay.
This national park is named after the Murchison Falls waterfall – a remarkable sight to see on the Nile river. It is also home to another main attraction, the aptly named Devil’s Cauldron. The Devil’s Cauldron refers to a spot at the bottom of the waterfall where the waters of the Nile crash through an eight-metre narrow gorge, bursting through with gusto and ultimately crashing into the "cauldron", creating an outstanding photo opportunity complete with a rainbow.
The Murchison Falls National Park is also celebrated for its astonishing wildlife. With 76 different mammals and 451 bird species, rest assured there’ll be plenty to see. Opt for a relaxing nature walk through stunning areas of the reserve for a chance to explore the various terrain. You can also hike to the top of Murchison Falls, where you’ll be able to admire the waterfall from an entirely new perspective. If you're feeling adventurous, trek to find the famous and rarely seen chimpanzees.
For fishermen, Murchison Falls is a paradise, there are plenty of interesting catches to reel in. It's possible to fish here all year round, and there's always a chance that you’ll be lucky enough to catch one of the impressive Nile catfish, some of which can be up to four feet long!
