Places to go in Zimbabwe

Excellent wildlife spotting opportunities aside, it’s the added allure of the thundering Victoria Falls that ensure that Zimbabwe remains a tempting option for visitors. This awesome range of cascades is the world’s largest expanse of falling water, shared with neighbouring Zambia. Visitors can marvel at the spectacle from the numerous viewpoints or in a helicopter, or braver folk can opt to bungee jump over the falls to really experience its wrath.

Further down the Zambezi River is the remote Mana Pools National Park, swirls of serenity that attract herds of elephants, impalas, zebras and antelopes. Take to the water on a canoe safari, or exhilarating walking safaris are possible here too, unlike most other safari parks in the world. Hwange is Zimbabwe’s biggest national park and home to the world largest population of elephants. Alongside these incredible beasts, there are lions, giraffes, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas and painted wolves (African wild dogs) to spot. In fact, there are over 100 mammal species here.

Elsewhere, Matobo National Park has unusual rock formations and pre-historic cave paintings. More about Zimbabwe’s ancient history can be discovered in the ruins of Great Zimbabwe that reveal it was once southern Africa’s most important trading centre.
