Rajabori Villas, Kratie

Experiential | Very Good | Excellent | Magnificent | Out of this world

  • Eco credentials
  • Beautiful Khmer artwork and furniture
  • Lovely pool

In the north of the island of Koh Trong, there’s a collection of wooden Khmer houses known as the Rajabori Villas. This is a place that’s fiercely protective of Cambodian traditions and architecture and Rajabori Villas was created to resemble an authentic village. To get here, you’ll catch a boat, then make your way to the villas by tuk tuk or moped.

The guestrooms are intriguing, featuring collections of original Khmer furniture and antiques. Wooden panels, old maps and photographs have been restored and used to decorate the villas. Many of the villas are spacious, some with particularly large bathrooms opening out onto lovely gardens. The hotel proudly generates its own solar power so rooms have single fans to cool them, rather than energy-hungry air conditioning. The hot water is also reliant on solar energy.

You’ll likely to have found yourself in Kratie to spot the freshwater dolphins – they really are a sight to behold. After a morning out and about on the water, you can return to Rajabori Villas for a quick dip in the pool before a bite to eat at the hotel’s restaurant.
