Khmer Architecture Tour, Phnom Penh
Your half-day tour will begin with a tour of Phnom Penh in a remork (Cambodian tuk-tuk) accompanied by an expert on Khmer Architecture.
Focusing on the 1950s-1960s, you’ll learn about the political and cultural situation of Cambodia at that time when architects were influenced by European, Russian and American styles. Incorporating these influences with traditional Cambodian design using locally produced materials, this style has now been dubbed ‘New Khmer Architecture’ and is recognised as a milestone in Khmer culture, despite being overlooked at the time.
Armed with this background information, you’ll soon be able to identify how the landscapes of Phnom Penh varies throughout the city, with an eclectic mix of buildings and structures.
