Authentic Tonlé Sap Lake, Siem Reap

Embark on an interesting boat trip on Tonlé Sap Lake, where you will have the opportunity to learn about life on the water. Fact alert: this is Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake! Covering a massive 2,500 km2 in the dry season, thanks to a unique phenomenon the lake swells to 4 times its size during the monsoon season

You’ll travel out to Kampong Phluck, a stilted village that most tourists have never heard of, making it a great place to see how local fishermen and their families live among the flooded mangrove forest. Here you’ll board a boat for a tour of the lake, passing submerged houses and flooded forests. You’ll stop at a house for a delicious lunch prepared especially for you, while you sit back and enjoy the spectacular scenery and tranquil atmosphere.

Due to low water levels during the dry season, the boat trip is only possible from June to March. However, an alternative floating village at Chong Kneas can be arranged instead – ask your VIVID Travel Designer for details.

Cambodia is such a diverse an interesting country, with beautiful nature and some of the world’s most incredible temples. The bike ride I embarked on through the ancient city of Angkor is definitely one of my most treasured memories.
