Sambor Prei Kuk Tour, Siem Reap

Today you’ll visit Sambor Prei Kuk, one of the most important pre-Angkorian sites in Cambodia. You’ll travel by ox and cart into the forest to the complex, dating from the 6th century, with over 100 well preserved temples scattered throughout the forest. The three main sites are linked by shaded tracks, and a walk through the jungle offers amazing views. Learn about the rich history of Cambodia while venturing inside these ancient structures.

The surrounding villages will feel like you’ve stepped back in time, and here you’ll witness traditional crafts being made from natural materials like bamboo and rattan. A community-run shop in Isanborei sells the products as a way to preserve the traditional crafts and to support the local residents. Members of the village will prepare a simple but very tasty lunch for you near the temple before you return to Siem Reap.

Responsible Travel: The catered lunch at the temples, ox-cart rides, and local English speaking guides all support the local villagers. Likewise, the stop at Isanborei is a chance to contribute to the local community.

Cambodia is such a diverse an interesting country, with beautiful nature and some of the world’s most incredible temples. The bike ride I embarked on through the ancient city of Angkor is definitely one of my most treasured memories.
