Holidays to Northern Yunnan, China
With its astonishing mix of landscapes and people, you’ll need to set aside a sizeable chunk of time to explore Northern Yunnan. Over the years, Yunnan’s domestic tourism has seen a boom, resulting in a mix of ethnic groups who have helped cement the province as both trendy and unique.
As one of China’s most biodiverse regions, Northern Yunnan is home to all manner of beautiful foliage. A visit in spring or summer will greet you with fragrant plum blossoms, tulips and rhododendrons, making it the perfect time to explore the nearby forests. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of Yunnan’s elusive wildlife, including the black-necked crane – considered holy by Tibetan monks – and the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey.
A visit to Northern Yunnam is only ever limited by your imagination. With so many amazing experiences to take advantage of, there’s no shortage of things to see and do. But its crowning glory has to be the Meili Snow Mountains. Still frequented by Tibetan monks, who have embarked on pilgrimages through the mountains for years, the Meili Snow Mountains are utterly breathtaking. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can trek through the mountains, where we recommend watching the sunrise before heading to Kawagebo Peak, where glaciers stretch for miles.
