Places to go in Indonesia
Picture-perfect Bali, famous for its long beaches and climbing rice terraces, is certainly the most well-known island in Indonesia, and due to its long history of being a first-class tourist destination, it's well set up for tourists of any age and interest. Cycling tours, white water rafting and dolphin watching are all on offer, and if you're more adventurous, you can enjoy a spectacular sunrise over the Mount Batur volcano.
Just a few miles west is Java, the best place to really get to grips with Indonesia’s rich history and culture. An overland trip by train and car is a brilliant way to see the island, with highlights including the capital city of Jakarta, Borobudur temple, and the infamous Mount Bromo.
However, it’s Indonesia’s lesser known islands that are perhaps the most rewarding. Sumatra, Indonesia's largest island, is dense with rainforest and offers you the chance to see orangutans and elephants. You can dive through spectacular reefs and relax on white sandy beaches in Lombok, or head to Flores and sail around the island of Komodo to see the famous dragons in the National Park.

When to go to Indonesia
Indonesia enjoys comfortable, warm temperatures all year round. The best time to go is certainly in the dry season, between April and October, in order to really make the most of its stunning landscapes. The wet season, from November to March, does attract heavy afternoon rainfall, but tourists can make the most of the quieter attractions and slightly cooler temperatures.
