Holidays to Ngapali Beach, Myanmar (Burma)

People come to Myanmar’s premier beach destination for the pristine beaches lined with palms and lapped by the clear waters of the Bay of Bengal. Yet despite it’s popularity with beach goers, Ngapali still maintains a fishing village charm. While more hotels are popping up, colourful fishing boats still pull up each evening laden with the catch of the day and locals still travel by ox-drawn cart. And besides, with a fifteen mile stretch of coastline, it never feels crowded and Ngapali has never professed to be party-goers paradise so it remains peaceful even during peak season.

Once you arrive the best thing to do is…well, not a lot really. Lie back in the shelter of a palm tree or ease away tense muscles from a bumpy bus journey or long-haul flight with a beach massage. If you’re feeling a bit more active go for a swim in the crystal clear sea or arrange a boat tour. You can visit local villages, islands off the coast or simply hop out for a snorkel. Get adventurous and board a catamaran for the afternoon or while away a sunny afternoon kayaking around the bay.

Head to the hilltop Tilawkasayambhu Buddha - you can spot it from the bay – for gorgeous views across the bay and out to sea. For a Birdseye view, take to the skies in a hot air balloon. If you tire of beachside lounging, head to the town of Thandwe and explore the many pagodas and stop off at the busy market to stock up on fresh food and local clothing.

One of best ways to spend your time in Ngapali is to indulge in the local fresh seafood such as squid, king prawns, lobster and snapper. Many of the hotels have restaurants with beach views and plenty of seafood on offer.
