Itinerary

This insightful trip to Laos and Cambodia includes international flights, transfers, accommodation, some breakfasts, a one hour traditional Lao massage and selected excursions.

From the first conversation until you arrive home from your holiday, you’ll be looked after by one of our Travel Designers who has travelled extensively in the region and will give advice from their personal experience on how to make the most out of your trip.

Luang Prabang

City

On day one, you’ll touch down in the spiritual and ancient capital of Laos. You’ll be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel where you can settle in and get your bearings. You’ll spend your time in the city exploring the highlights of this UNESCO World heritage site; watching monks collecting the alms, touring the main attractions such as the former Royal Palace and learning how Buddhism influences the local culture.

On your last day you’ll enjoy a tour accompanied by a former UNESCO advisor, author and long-time Luang Prabang resident. You'll visit four different types of buildings categorised by UNESCO, from a very traditional Lao house on stilts to a French Colonial building and an old Chinese shop.

You'll then go and visit Kuang Si Waterfalls, an impressive 3 tier waterfall and a Bear Sanctuary run by Free the Bears Fund, where 23 Asiatic Black Bears rescued from poaching reside. On the way, you'll stop at a small village, home to many ethnic minorities, where you'll learn about the daily lives of the local villagers. There will also be time to visit Kuang Si Butterfly Park.

Vang Vieng

Countryside town

After breakfast you’ll head south to Vang Vieng, a small town on the banks of the Nam Song River surrounded by striking limestone mountains. Once you arrive you’ll embark on a guided tour inside the nearby Tham Jang cave. Once you’ve had your fill of stalactites and stalagmites you can cool off in the caves natural spring waters. Spend the next day getting to know Vang Vieng at your own pace.

Vientiane

Capital city

Today you’re off to the capital city of Laos! Upon arrival in Vientiane you’ll explore the town’s sights by a traditional Tuk Tuk. You’ll start off at Wat Sisaket, one of the most beautiful temples in the capital. You’ll continue on to a religious museum, Presidential Palace and Patuxay monument - Laos’ version of the Arc de Triomphe! You’ll explore Buddha Park before watching the sun set over the Mekong River. The next day will start with a cooking class accompanied by a passionate culinary instructor. After which you'll head out to Forest Temple. There you’ll purchase food donations for the monks, have a discussion about Buddhism and life as a monk before settling into your own private meditation session. You’ll finish the evening at a local spa where you’ll enjoy a one hour traditional Lao massage. Prepare to hit your bed blissed out!

9-10

Phnom Penh

Capital city

It’s time to say farewell to Laos and head to Phnom Penh, the buzzy capital of Cambodia. You’ll spend your time here embarking on an architectural tour, an interesting and insightful cultural lens to view the city through. After a midday rest and refresh at your hotel you’ll dig deeper into the country’s tragic history with a sobering tour of Tuol Sleng Prison and the Killing Fields at Choeung Ek. There is the option to head to the gardens of the National Museum to watch a traditional Cambodian dance performance in the evening.

The Cambodian Coast

Beach

After a tuk tuk tour of the historical French Quarter you’ll leave Phnom Penh behind and head to the Cambodian Coast to the seaside town of Kep. Spend your time here as you please; relaxing on the beach, filling up on local seafood or joining in on an optional tour. You can choose to visit the idyllic tropical Rabbit Island for a seafood BBQ lunch, take a tuk tuk tour of the surrounding countryside, explore abandoned colonial villas, learn about the pepper production industry or paddleboard around the mangrove shores of Kep’s coastline.

Siem Reap

City

Say goodbye to the seaside and fly into Siem Reap. You’ll visit the ancient city of Angkor by remork (similar to a Thai tuk tuk). Learn all about the fascinating city of the walled city with your archaeologist guide. You’ll continue your day visiting ancient temples and overgrown ruins before finishing off at Angkor Wat Temple, the biggest religious temple in the world. The next day you’ll cycle north through rural countryside and down sandy tracks where you’ll find a secluded 12th century temple, Banteay Thom, devoid of tourists. Spend the rest of your time in Siem Reap as you choose or join the optional Cambodian cooking class.

On Day 17 it’s time to head home with your newfound memories of Laos and Cambodia.
