Holidays to Nairobi, Kenya

Nairobi is the capital of Kenya and its largest city. Although most visitors use Nairobi as a launch pad for the most awe-inspiring adventure of their lives to the Maasai Mara and other national parks, thanks to the conservation work carried out by staff at Nairobi National Park, it’s possible to see lions, rhinos, buffalo, leopards, cheetahs and many more species in their natural habitats within reach of Nairobi.

On the outskirts of Nairobi is an elephant orphanage run by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust which hand-rears orphaned elephants and rhino calves from across Kenya before releasing them back into the wild. The nearby Giraffe Centre and Giraffe Manor Hotel carries out a similar role for its favoured animal. Many visitors are not only enthralled by the sight of these incredible creatures, but moved at being in such close proximity to them.

Lovers of culture and history are catered for via the Nairobi National Museum and the Karen Blixen Museum. The latter is housed in the former home of the pioneering Danish farmer, activist and writer whose most famous book, 'Out of Africa', was turned into an Oscar-winning movie.

Back in the city, it's easy to spend time in the bars, restaurants, markets and shops where a real flavour of modern life and many varied cultures are experienced. Recuperate with a quiet stroll through the picturesque Uhuru Gardens, Karura Forest, Arbortum or City Park where visitors rub shoulders with the resident monkeys.
