Kayaking in Hermanus

With its mountainous backdrop and rugged coastline, the quaint, coastal village of Hermanus offers some of the best land-based whale watching in the world with the arrival of Southern Right Whales into the shelter of Walker Bay.

After a thorough briefing on kayaking techniques and safety you will paddle from the historical Old Harbour and start your round trip, the direction depending on winds, swells and paddling abilities. A knowledgeable guide will open up the wonders of the ocean to you, as you explore the beautiful natural surroundings.

Explore this magnificent coastline up close, kayaking through the marine reserve whilst enjoying sightings of cape fur seals, penguins, cormorants and other sea birds and marine mammals.

During whale season from June to November, you have the opportunity to view the whales up to 300m away - and with minimal noise pollution and no environmental pollution this is one of the most ecologically friendly ways to experience the whales.

I adore Africa and have lived and worked in South Africa as well as travelling across the wider region. Spotting a leopard during a night safari at Namibia Private Game Reserve is definitely an experience I'll remember forever.
