Canoeing on Momella Lakes

Arusha National Park is known locally as the little gem of Tanzania, owing to the fact that tourists often overlook it. But it’s their loss, as this park is packed full of splendid wildlife and scenery. On this half-day visit, you’ll depart early in the morning for a two-hour game drive from Arusha to Momella Lakes. Along the way, look out for towers of giraffes, warthogs in search food and bounding herds of red duiker.

Once you arrive at the lakeside, your guide will go through some basic techniques and safety information. Then you’ll board a two-person canoe and set off on a guided exploration, circumnavigating the lake to spot some of the 500 species of birds that call this park home. As you paddle, you might see more giraffe, herds of grazing buffalo and pods of hippos. On a particularly clear day, you’ll be able to glimpse Mount Kilimanjaro towering on the horizon. After two hours on the water, you’ll return to the jetty and taken home in time for lunch.

Let's talk
When people think of Tanzania, they think of the Serengeti National Park, they think of David Attenborough narrating over a stalking cheetah. Tanzania simply embodies safari. You can also visit the vibrant 'safari city', known as Arusha. I bought some beautiful, one-of-a-kind, hand-made glasses here, which were crafted by people with learning disabilities. This great social enterprise is known as Shanga, and you can visit here during your stay and learn how everything is made.
