Queen Elizabeth National Park
Activity & Adventure + Wildlife
This morning say goodbye to the wonders of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and drive north to the popular Queen Elizabeth National Park. This park boasts diverse wildlife, a spectacular range of landscapes and was given its name in 1954 in tribute to a visit by Queen Elizabeth II herself. You will have with you a picnic lunch onboard and en route stop to visit the mysterious wilderness of Maramagambo Forest. This forested area acquired its name – meaning "end of words" – from a tale in which youngsters got lost in the area and were so exhausted after finding a way out that they couldn’t speak. It is here that you have the opportunity to see the famous bat-caves before continuing on your journey to your accommodation in Queen Elizabeth National Park - Ishasha Wilderness Camp.
Your camp is situated in the southern sector of the park on the Ntungwe River, an idyllic retreat for people who truly enjoy the wilderness. Check in and enjoy the superb quality accommodation and services in this unspoiled landscape. As evening approaches be mindful that the wildlife is free to pass through the camp; elephants can be seen in front of your accommodation bathing in the river, buffalo enjoy grazing in the camp grounds and there are resident troops of Black and White Colobus and Vervet monkeys which are frequently viewed.
The following morning you'll swap your own two feet for a 4X4 on a morning game drive across the park. Traverse volcanic craters, grassy plains, tropical forest and giant lakes all connected by the Kasinga channel groaning with hippos. This safari drive gives you the chance to spot an incredible range of wildlife, from elephant, lion, shoebills, buffalo, sitatunga, giant forest hogs, waterbuck and leopard. In the afternoon, after lunch, take to the waters of the 32-kilometer Kazinga Channel for a boat excursion, where you may spot water based wildlife and an array of birds.
To round off your stay in Queen Elizabeth National Park, spend your final day on a full day trip to Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve. This is where you have the opportunity to do an exciting trek off the beaten track searching for the chimpanzees and other primates. On the trek there is plenty to see including beautiful waterfalls, butterflies, moths, reptiles and flowers. Head back to the lodge after your trek, enjoy a well-deserved dinner and bed down for the night.
