Dusk at Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia
Phum Baitang Resort, Siem Reap
- Luxury villa accommodation
- Delectable dining
- Superb spa
Phum Baitang is, quite simply, heavenly. A collection of 45 stilted wooden villas, some with private plunge pools, make up this super special resort. Although it’s conveniently close to the town of Siem Reap, it has a captivating position in the Cambodian countryside surrounded by paddy fields.
The luxury of the villas is understated. A blend of wood, stonework and fine fabrics in a neutral palette subtly convey Phum Baitang’s quality and elegance. Huge baths in oversized bathrooms will have you torn between whether you choose a long soak first, or whether the large day bed on the terrace will get first dibs for your time.
A large, outdoor infinity pool is dotted with shady palms around the edge and the adjacent pool bar serves snacks and drinks. We’d opt for a freshly squeezed juice to rehydrate under the Cambodian sun. The spa will have spa aficionados squealing with delight at the impressive array of original treatments available.
The two restaurants at Phum Baitang promise culinary treats. Bay Phsar serves up regional dishes using local produce (including rice from the hotel’s paddy fields). Hang Bay has a more international menu, including steaks and seafood, and is perfectly positioned to enjoy the sunset.
Children are welcome here. Kids can take part in cooking classes, explore Cambodian culture and even help with rice harvesting.
