Siem Reap Countryside by Vespa, Siem Reap

Your tour begins at 08:00am. Your guide will collect you from your hotel and you’ll soon leave behind the busy streets of downtown Siem Reap and head north of town. The scenery soon fills with rice paddies, lazing water buffalos and small wooden houses.

Your first stop is at a village just outside of the main Angkor Archaeological Park. Here you’ll visit a shop filled with colorful shrines, and learn why Cambodian families place these shrines outside their homes. Continuing onto a nearby market that sells tropical fruits and vegetables, indulge in some people-watching and watch the locals going about their daily routines.

Hop back on your Vespa and drive further into the countryside to reach West Baray Lake. You can either take a boat or continue on your scooter to an island in the middle of the lake where the magnificent West Mebon temple can be found. Although it’s being renovated, the temple is still beautiful and has an interesting story. There’s often an old fortune teller who can be found sitting in the shadow of the temple and, for a small donation, he will give you a preview of what’s to come.

Your next stop will be Wat Svay Romeat pagoda where you’ll meet with Buddhist monks and receive a traditional blessing in a serene ceremony. You’ll finish your Vespa tour at a farm where a picnic lunch will be served. Enjoy typical Khmer food and refreshing drinks while relaxing in the countryside and soaking up the view.

Cambodia is such a diverse an interesting country, with beautiful nature and some of the world’s most incredible temples. The bike ride I embarked on through the ancient city of Angkor is definitely one of my most treasured memories.
