Located next door to the stunning UNESCO Heritage site of The Summer Palace lies the prestigious Aman Summer Palace hotel. With a secret door located within the hotel leading straight into its neighbour’s grounds, and out of hours access, hotel guests are really given the royal treatment, making this one of our favourite places to stay in Beijing.
Much of the accommodation comprises a series of pavilions that are former Guest Houses of the Summer Palace and their opulent and luxurious décor reflect its heritage with bamboo blinds, wooden screens and Ming Dynasty style furniture. Guests with rooms located closest to the palace walls may even be able to enjoy daily operatic performances taking place on the Palace’s Great stage. Providing the perfect central location it is the ideal destination to explore the magnificent landmarks Beijing has to offer such as the Great Wall and The Forbidden City.
For the early risers, guests can arrange for breakfast to be taken by the lake where you will enjoy exclusivity before it opens its doors to the public. The hotel’s restaurants provide a choice of delicacies, ‘The Chinese Restaurant’, as its name suggests, offers fine Chinese dining, a more Western menu is on offer at ‘The Grill’ while ‘Naoki’ serves French Kaiseki.
The Fitness suite, along with high-tech gym equipment, also offers daily Pilates classes and with personal trainers on site there really is no excuse. On hand in case you overstretch or just want an extra treat is the hotel’s spa offering a variety of indulgent treatments inspired by traditional Chinese medicine.
Another hidden treat in this hotel is the Private Cinema with popcorn to boot, available to hire privately and a wonderful choice of films available who wouldn’t want to indulge.
