Fairmont Peace, Shanghai
- An elegant hotel in an unbeatable location on the Bund in Shanghai
- High-end, glamorous guestrooms designed in a beautiful art deco style
The Fairmont Peace is considered the grand dame of the Shanghai hotel scene. Elegant and luxurious, this is the place to come to be immersed in the opulence of 1930s glamour.
The guestrooms are as lavish as the rest of the hotel. High quality furnishings, Egyptian cotton sheets, silk upholstery and piles of luxury pillows are set to welcome and relax you. Splendid touches like claw-foot soaking tubs and boudoirs hark back to the hotel’s art deco heyday. Modern amenities like espresso machines and flat screen TVs are cleverly concealed behind the décor so not to spoil the diligent styling.
Unsurprisingly for a hotel of this calibre there’s an impressive spa, Willow Stream, which promises relaxation and rejuvenation after long days of sightseeing. Or perhaps you'd rather tuck into afternoon tea in the hotel’s beautiful Jasmine Lounge?
If you want to dine at the hotel, you’ll have a tough decision to make. There’s Dragon Phoenix serving up a delicious menu of Shanghainese and Cantonese dishes (and the service is incredible too), or Cathay Room serves European dishes and offers unrivalled views over the Bund. This is where you’ll want to try if you love your vino – the wine list is fantastic. For something a little more casual, Victor’s Café is a French inspired deli on the ground floor.
Of course, no visit to The Fairmont Peace would be complete without sampling a cocktail in the famous Jazz Bar. This legendary location has been celebrated since the 1930s for its music and cocktails. These days, the hotel’s house band still plays nightly.
There’s so much history to this place. Charlie Chaplin composed Smile on the baby grand in the lobby, and Noel Coward wrote Private Lives here.
