Vacations to Jimbaran, Bali

Once just a tiny fishing village, the soft sands of Jimbaran are now one of Bali’s best-known luxury beaches, thanks to a dramatic overhaul that saw the development of several word-class resorts and a number of high-end villas perched on the hillside. While Jimbaran’s beauty makes it a popular choice with tourists, it retains a charm and character that helps retain its status as one of the more peaceful beaches along the coastline.

With white sands and little in the way of currents thanks to a sheltered position within a protected bay, Jimbaran is an excellent and very safe swimming spot. Most people come here for the beach and it’s a great place to just relax, sunbathe, swim and in actual fact, do very little! If you can muster the energy though then you might fancy a massage – there are plenty of spas and massage shops along the beach and you can usually just pop in without an appointment but, generally speaking, a visit to Jimbaran is all about rest and relaxation. That being said, the magnificent Uluwatu Temple perched high on the Bukit peninsula is just a short drive away and is well worth a visit one evening in time for sunset. Inhabited by long-tailed macaques, this beautiful temple features spectacular views out to the sea and is just a few hundred meters from an open amphitheater where fire dances are performed each evening.

Jimbaran itself experiences incredible sunsets on a near-nightly basis and if you’re a lover of fresh seafood you will be in your element here - think heaped plates of red snapper, steamed rice and vegetables, washed down with a fresh watermelon juice. The quiet, peaceful beach comes to life in the evening as clusters of grilled seafood restaurants lit by oil torches entice you with their wooden tables and chairs placed directly on the sand so that you can hear the soft lapping waters as you dine – if you pick a beachfront table at high tide you might even get your toes wet!
